I’ve had a huge response to my offhand comment about Bettie Page in last week’s Sunday Weekend Women. Clearly, Miss Page held, and continues to hold the errrr attention and fascination of many men.
I’m not one of them.
In the first case, I don’t think she’s all that pretty (and that dorky hairstyle helps not one bit):
I think a great deal of her appeal, however, comes from looking like the mythical “girl next door”.
Secondly, I find most of her poses to be cheesy, not sexy. It may have worked in the 1950s and early 1960s, but other than showing off her body, there’s little sexiness in there:
I have to admit, though, that La Bettie has sensational legs.
Finally, I’m not turned on by the “soft-bondage/discipline” type of pics for which she became famous:
B&D does absolutely nothing for me anyway, and the tongue-in-cheek “naughtiness” of pics like the above just makes me giggle.
When she’s not hamming it up for the camera, she’s actually more sexy:
