Regular Readers will know that when it comes to the Weekend Women (or to any women for that matter), my tastes tend to run to the full-figured, which is why I haven’t featured Barbara Stanwyck before.
But the other night, I caught part of one of her movies (and believe me, without regard to her co-stars, they were always “her” movies), and I was totally smitten by her beautiful face.
Like many of my generation, I guess I’d always thought of Miss Stanwyck as the old broad on that stupid TV series, so I’d ignored her. But when I saw her in that old movie, I was completely smitten. And to make matters worse, when she was on the screen, only Gary Cooper managed to take some of the light away from her, such was her presence.
We’re going to be seeing a LOT more of Miss Stanwyck on these pages in the near future, so let’s start with a few taken when she was a youngin in the late 1920s:
