Assault Rifles (Commie) Part I

By and large, I prefer to talk about Winchester, Remington, Marlin, Springfield, Kimber and other fine American companies.
Frankly, I find it distasteful to give money to the Chinese (Norinco, SKS etc) and even to the Russians (Saiga, AK, Baikal etc). But every so often, ya just gotta break with tradition, so here goes.
IF I was going to buy a Commie gun, the list would be short. Here’s what I would get, if I had the money.
From Krebs Custom Guns, just outside Chicago, we have the excellent Kalashnikov series; this one is the AK-103 in 7.62x39mm Commie Russian:
... and they have a host of other AK choices, even in the wussy 5.56mm/.223 and ultra-wussy 5.45x39mm poodleshooter calibers.
For those who prefer the more manly and non-Commie 7.62x51mm NATO caliber, there’s always the Krebs custom job on the VEPR II:
The Krebs custom rifles typically run about $1,200 to $1,600, as I recall. (If you decide to speak to these fine people, ask for my buddy Brian Conrad, who will bend you over the desk and rape you help you get the best rifle possible—and no, I don’t get a kickback from Krebs, or from any gun maker… damnit.)
Remember that 7.62 Russian and 7.62 NATO ammo is, ahem, as cheap as dirt out there, so if you decide to buy one of these beauties, buy a boatload of ammo, preferably on November 19 (National Ammo Day, for those who have been living on the planet Manhattan so far).
Tomorrow, we’ll look at cheapskate Commie guns if I’m still furious, which I may well be.
