AMT Hunter (.22 Mag)

There was a time when the .22 Magnum (.22 WMR) cartridge was a forlorn little thing, with only a few guns chambered for it. More recently, it seems that everyone and his dog has been turning out rifles for this little powerhouse rimfire cartridge.

But back when, to find a rifle chambered in .22 Mag was a tough job—and to find one with a semi-automatic action was almost impossible.

Except for the AMT Hunter, a sharp-looking stainless steel beast with a synthetic stock, detachable 10-round mag and 20” barrel, such as this one (which also has scope rings attached):

As far as I’m aware, AMT is out of business—but you can get spares for them here.

But the Hunter action is as sturdy as you could wish it to be. Here’s a close-up:

Cost is generally about $500, and it’s not a bad deal at all. If you see one at an ELGS, snap it up.
