From Steve:
It’s funny how hippies love so many things associated with the Nazis. Volkswagen Beetles. BMWs. Vegetarianism. Excessive concern about animal rights. Eugenics. Government control of industry. Anti-Semitism.
Not so sure about the Beemers, but then again, BMWs are just VWs for grown-up hippies (ie. the ones who Sold out And Are Part Of The System, Man).
When I was younger (that would be 17), I kind of liked the idea of being a hippie, but I always came up against one rock-solid quesiton which I could not answer: in the end, who makes all the stuff that I like—stuff like Rickenbacker basses, Marshall twin-stack amp/speaker combos, and for that matter, the electricity which would be needed to power all that stuff?
And then there was the gas for my VW van—not to mention the van itself—and so on.
It says something that a hopelessly-stupid 18-year-old kid in the early 1970s (that would be me) could decide that the whole hippie thing was ultimately pointless—yet now, nearly forty years later, people still think that the hippie thing is a viable alternative to capitalism.
What a bunch of fools they are (not to mention, as Steve did, neo-Nazis).
Remember, folks: scratch a liberal, there’s a totalitarian underneath.
