One More For Our Team

Looks like Nebraskans will soon be joining the ranks of the free, and will be able to carry concealed weapons*. The state legislature passed LB 454 last Friday, and NebGov Heineman is expected to sign it into law.

*This is not a perfect law. GFW centers like Omaha and Lincoln will be allowed to ban CCW within their jurisdictions—in fact, Omaha has already promulgated such a regulation.

Nevertheless, while there’s still a little cleaning-up to do in Nebraska—eg. reciprocity with other states, because there is none—things look good for the Second Amendment. (For a complete roundup, see what Dave Kopel has to say about it.)

I need to make a side point, here.

Take a look at these two maps, and note the dates of each:

Yup… that’s a twenty-year period from almost universal gun-fearing wussiness to today, where 28 states “allow” their citizens to carry firearms without too much restriction (ie. only 22 states or so are still GFW). (Just for the record, even though California, New Jersey and New York are nominally CCW states, the plain fact is that it’s almost impossible for anyone to get a CCW license there, so as far as I’m concerned, they’re little better than Illinois.)

Twenty years to overcome a blatant Constitutional infringement—and the job is still not yet complete. (Next step: turning the blue areas into green, and the yellow into blue. Wisconsin is trembling on the brink of CCW, and I don’t care about Illinois.)

Let’s apply this to the conservative agenda as a whole.

Many people talk about overturning legislation on an all-or-nothing basis, the debates on taxation and Social Security being but two most recent examples. In other words, get everything you want all in one go, or else it’s worthless.

It’s going to take many more years for us to undo all the vicissitudes of the Welfare State and other Lefty constructs. But as long as we stay the course, and remain firm in our principles, we will win, eventually.

We have the Constitution as our foundation. The Left has only discredited Marxist philosophy, multiple instances of failed implementation thereof, and vile people who still believe that this crap belongs in the U.S. of A. (Ted Kennedy, Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi and other such reptiles, call your office.)

As GWB said at the start of the War On Terrorist Bastards, it’s going to take a long time—a long time for us, finally, to win the Cold War. But win it we will, as long as we remain patient and resolute, and VOTE.

Just as we have been doing with CCW.
