Fox On Fox

October 11, 2007
6:35 AM CST

Missed the O’Reilly interview with ex-MexPres Vicente Fox the other night, but I did catch parts as he reran some salient points.

Of course, it’s all the Yanquis’ fault for being so successful, and not wanting to share their bounty with Mexico. Of course.

I don’t get it. Mexico has oil, and agriculture, and plentiful cheap labor. That’s one thing more than China has. Yet Mexico still relies on repatriated US dollars from illegal immigrants as its #2 source of revenue (petrodollars from Guess Who being their #1).

That’s our fault?

I would have nailed that slimy Mexpol’s head to the wall. Lessee… if Mexicans are just coming here to improve their lives, then why can’t it work the other way? Why can’t wealthy Americans buy land in, oh, Acapulco or Yucatan and build retirement homes there? (As I recall, we can lease land, but not own it; but considering Mexico’s long and storied respect for the rule of law, few people actually do that—lest their lease be summarily and unilaterally terminated, and the house lost to the land’s owner.)

How about another one?

Let’s assume I visit Mexico (don’t hold yer breath, Vicente), but I take a handgun with me for my own protection. If caught, I’ll go to jail for a long time, because the MexGov does not allow its peasants citizens to own handguns, and their law specifically forbids the “importation” of any guns into the country (unless said importation is performed by the MexGov, of course).

So if caught, I would be breaking Mexico’s law—even though all I was trying to do was “improve” (ie. save) my life by so doing.

Yet a Mexican citizen can break America’s immigration laws, and not go to jail.

Likewise, Mexico deals harshly (as in, shoots, arrests and deports without trial) illegal immigrants from below their southern border—but when we even suggest closing our border effectively, we’re the Big Bad Meanies?

As usual, the blithering idiot “No-Spinmeister” O’Reilly made no mention of any of this, and allowed Nuestro Vicente to blather on about how all this is America’s fault, and, incidentally, to pimp his book which provides details about how it’s all our fault.

Bah.

For the first time in, well, forever, I switched from Fox to NBC, to watch the excellent Life detective show. (Tech Support has the hots for Brit actor Damien Lewis, and there are enough beautiful women stellar acting performances on the show to keep me watching.)
