Not The Real Gap

The Telegraph (which, by the way, is rapidly turning to shit, just like its preferred Tory party) utters this breathless headline:
Life expectancy gap of 13 years between rich and poor areas
Well, duh. Poor people always live shorter lives than wealthier people, in almost all situations.
However, to me the real statistic is one that should cheer the hearts of stout English bulldogs like Mr. Free Market and The Englishman: the poll actually shows that the English live longer than the Scots *—almost all the “short-lived” groups are in Scotland, and the “long-lived” groups in England.
And if that doesn’t make their evening pints of Wadworth 6X taste just a little better, nothing will.

*Yeah, yeah, I know it doesn’t really show that, but I’m using the New York Times Statistics Reporting Method, wherein the facts are subordinate to the agenda.
