No Slant Here

Nope: no reporting bias here at all:

After the November election, Democrats will push for a second economic stimulus package that includes money for the states’ stalled infrastructure projects, along with help paying for healthcare expenses, food stamps and extended unemployment benefits, U.S. Rep. Barney Frank said Thursday.

In a meeting with the editorial board of The Standard-Times, Rep. Frank, D-Mass., also called for a 25 percent cut in military spending, saying the Pentagon has to start choosing from its many weapons programs, and that upper-income taxpayers are going to see an increase in what they are asked to pay.

Why is this bias? The stupid Massachusetts newspaper headline reads: ”Frank envisions post-election stimulus from Democrats”.

Only in some weird New England liberal dimension could healthcare subsidies, food stamps and unemployment benefits be called a “stimulus package”—especially when said stimulus comes at the expense of military spending (which is a stimulus).

Bah.

  1. Franks is the same guy who was saying there wasn’t anything wrong with Fannie May or Ferdie Mac up until January this year, all the while pocketing 6 digit campaign donations from same.
And is now furiously denying he did anything wrong.
In this case, Kim, some assembly is highly encouraged.

  2. All aboard the great American tax ride.

Amazing that a man who did so much to destroy our economy is still allowed to breathe, much less retain his position of great power.

Or if they don’t care, as long as he keeps looting people in other states, too?

  15. Lets see, increase the tax rate in the bracket that will hit people who run small businesses and independent professionals. Some will lay off, some will have shut down.  Thus a decrease in tax revenue and a higer demand for unemployment money.

Cut the military by 25%.  Uhm so you will have more people looking for work both ex-military and defense co. workers going down to the unemployment office.

Pass some pro-union laws, no secret ballots etc.  You won’t be able to get a job unless you can pay a substational up front fee to a union. (Carpenters Union 1950s in Seatlle for example).  Reduction in available jobs see unemployment office for some money.

European bankers have apparently been making loans to “emerging markets” which are rapidly turning into ultra subprime loans.  Don’t know how much but for some counries about 3 times the amount the US is dealing with.
There goes the export market.  Head for the unemployment line.

The only bright spot is that when you are line there will be some media people their with you who thought the new “Fairness” doctrine would bring back the good times.  Advertisning revenue fell to much to save them and besides now that Big Urkel is in charge why does he need them anymore?

Oh by the way, the tax on un-employment benefits will now be deducted from each payment up front.

  16. Lessee, the Big Dig, estimated at $2.8B, came in at $22B, less a few paltry hundreds of milllions paid back by the contractors as punitive fines.  Frank was in it up to his armpits.  He found it very stimulating.
As to the New Englanders’ seeming inability to find good people for government, chalk it up to sclerotic Republican committees whose primary gauge of a potential candidate’s electability is how he treated them when they were in high school together in 1949.  Both my State Representative and Senator - First Berkshire - have A+ NRA ratings but both are Democrats:  squamous, negotiable - and electable.
What conservatives and libertarians alike need to do is get off the couch, ignore the national political-entertainment complex, and begin infiltrating municipal and county governments.  We need fewer generals and more majors.

  18. Started reading Shirer’s “Rise and Fall of the Third Reich”, thought it might be appropriate for the times.  Check this quote from “Mein Kampf”.

“ I understood the infamous spiritual terror which this this movement (the commies) exerts, particularly on the bourgeoisie, which is neither morally nor mentally equal to such attacks; at a given sign, it unleashes a veritable barrage of lies and slanders against whatever adversary seems most dangerous, until the nerves of the attacked persons break down..... this is a tactic based on precise calculation of all human weakness and its result will lead to success with almost mathematical certainty...”

  20. Congressman Frank is planning to pay off his supporters, plain and simple. The military are majority conservative Republicans, so he wants to take the money from them to do it with. No other considerations are evident (but don’t question his patriotism!).
