Quote Of The Day

July 27, 2006
7:45 AM CST

From NZ Police spokeswoman Noreen Hegarty:

“It would be reasonable to question why he went into the shop with a machete.”

Did I ever tell you guys that I absolutely love New Zealanders? (Except when they’re playing rugby against us, that is.)

Here’s the full story behind the quote, sent by Reader Aaron M.

  1. I kind of like this one:

She said going into a gunshop with a machete was not the smartest thing for anyone to do.

  2. You mean the press reports statements of common sense down there?  WOW!

  3. Spingboks VS the All Blacks are some of the best matches.  I love the All Blacks dance thing they do before the match.

  4. Time for the happy dance, Kim. Especially seeing another country’s Goblin is bleeding out.

And mattm, don’t EVER let a Kiwi hear you call the Haka a “dance thing”. They are very large men (and women) and tend to squeeze heads like pimples when angered. grin

  5. Thats right the Haka.  I couldn’t remember what it was called.  When I played rugby in college we used to watch the World Cup matches.  Our coach was Welsh and he would get them on tape.  I can’t seem to find the current matches on TV though.

BTW the Springboks always seemed more intimidating.  15 7 ft white guys just doesn’t seem natural.

  6. That quote ranks right up there with:

“No matter how responsible he may seem, never give your gun to a monkey.”

  7. On the 7.00am radio news the report stated that the Police were looking into the incident and most likely would not press charges “against” the gun shop employee as it looked like a case of self defense. Still not holding my breath as the minute the media works out that perp was a (most likely, as we do not know yet) minority type(citizen of the world), the GFW’s will be howling for the shop to close as it CAUSED the issue by existing and by extension call for banning of all firearms (except machete’s) .
Also to all you Aussies, look out Saturday the whinging about the Haka will backfire. All Blacks Ake! Ake! Kia Kaha E!
/ do I have to? ---Never, ever bring a knife to a gun fight.

  8. “do I have to? ---Never, ever bring a knife to a gun fight.”

    The OBVIOUS comment, of course.

  9. Springboks...7 ft white guys...

And 7ft is just their collar size.
